Why "More Reporting" Rarely Fixes a Visibility Bottleneck
A dashboard reports on data. It doesn't fix what's wrong with the data.
A dashboard inherits whatever it's built on
When a business can't see what's actually happening operationally, the common response is to commission a new dashboard or report. But a dashboard is only as trustworthy as the data feeding it — if the underlying records are stale, duplicated, or entered inconsistently, a better dashboard just displays that unreliability more clearly and more often.
The actual constraint is usually upstream
A genuine visibility bottleneck is usually a data-capture problem, not a data-display problem — information isn't being recorded at the point where it's generated, so nothing downstream of that point can be trusted regardless of how it's presented. Fixing the display without fixing the capture point produces a more convincing-looking version of the same wrong numbers.
